BATON ROUGE - Inspired by the rich political history of Louisiana, Baton Rouge brothers Chris Taylor and John Taylor started their own clothing line and named it after two of Louisiana’s most famous governors: Huey Long and Earl Long.
As a fan of streetwear fashion, Chris Taylor found himself always buying and reading about brands from either New York or Los Angeles. Many of those clothing lines produce tee shirts based on places or things in their city that make it cool or interesting. “if you were not from one of those two cities, you just were not a part of the street art and fashion world," Chris Taylor says. "Louisiana has a cool factor, the rest of the country just doesn’t know about it.”
Putting their ideas together in early 2008, the two brothers decided to stop talking and make it happen. Hooking up with local printing company Purple Monkey, Huey & Earl released its first collection, titled The Huey Collection, in November. The brand highlighted the big day by giving away T-shirts to readers on their blog, WhatUpSon.com.
Hueyandearl.com just launched full availability of all of their T-shirts in its online store. Focusing on the local shops along the 10/12 corridor, Huey & Earl gave exclusive availability of their tees to them for the last two months. Those stores are Politics (Lafayette), Rukus (Baton Rouge), and Urban Nine (Baton Rouge).
2009 promises to be a big year for the young Baton Rouge based clothing company as it sets its sites on the rest of the country.
