News Alert: Acadian Ambulance expands into San Antonio area

BUILDING AN EMPIRE: Thanks largely to Richard Zuschlag, a Pennsylvania transplant who doesn’t mind admitting he takes advantage of the good-old-boy network, Acadian now delivers ambulance service in 33 parishes as well as Texas and Mississippi.

News Alert: Acadian Ambulance expands into San Antonio area

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

Lafayette-based Acadian Ambulance Service has won the contract to provide 911 ambulance service for unincorporated areas of Bexar County, Texas, which includes San Antonio. The three-year arrangement begins May 1. To help attract workers, the company says it will make health and other key employment benefits effective on the first day of work. Company officials report getting nearly 150 applications from area EMS workers already. “We are very excited about this opportunity to serve Bexar County,” says VP of Operations Christopher Cirillo. “Our team has already begun coordinating with emergency response agencies to create a smooth transition for the community.” The company's offer to fully integrate into the area's public safety system apparently helped it win the contract. Acadian crews and dispatchers will be able to communicate with other agencies on the Bexar County radio system, and its fleet will be equipped with power stretchers, CAD-integrated GPS mapping/vehicle locating and mobile data terminals. Acadian is also establishing seven ambulance stations throughout the county. The firm already provides service in Orange and Jefferson counties in Texas and began operating in San Antonio in December with contracted medical facilities. San Antonio is the 7th largest city in the country. The 35-year-old company has contracts in 39 counties and parishes along the Gulf Coast, including Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana.
